Oh, school...you make me dumber?

As yet another week approaches its end (it's Thursday, that's only one day away from Friday!!) I feel the calming relief that I will soon experience another few days when my brain can relax and take some much needed time off.

For some reason I feel as though this week has been harder then all the others. My brain didn't retain any information. I just had a computer skill check test, and my mind went blank. Completely blank. It was like my brain had a single moment of spontaneous combustion.

If you are in school, I don't want to alarm you, but this will happen to you...most likely. And when it does I want you to remember Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

DON'T PANIC.

Did I panic...yes. A little. But I have pills that make me calm down slightly. So in the end it was all good. But as for you, dear reader, don't panic. Do what you can and try your best (just like mom always used to say back when you were in grade school). It's only one test. One out of many. So maybe your brain put up a 'gone fishin' ' sign today, but next week it will be ready and rearing to go.

So today I may have been sitting in class looking at the test and thinking to myself 'word....art?...what is this....word....art?' but tomorrow, is a 'brand new day, yeah the sun is high, all the birds are singing-' aaaaaand yes, that was some lyrics from the film 'Dr.Horrible's Sing Along Blog'.

Anyway, you get the point. So a test is bombed, worry not, the world keeps on spinning and you'll have another chance to kick the next test's behind, just like Buffy would.

Fraulein Sara's Teachings on BLOGS!

BLOGS!

Guess what, you're on a blog right now. That warm feeling you have of both excitement and humor inside your gut is the feeling you're getting from reading this blog. Blogs are a way for people to communicate thoughts, feelings and information throughout the internet. A written version of you tube. A longer version of Twitter. The less social version of facebook. Getting an account on any of these sites is easy peasy lemon squeezy, seeing as I assume most of you, dear readers, have accounts on these sites and how easy was it to start an account? As easy as it is to type in your email, come up with a witty and brilliant name for the blog and design your site as you see fit. Even if you're rolling your eyes right now thinking 'Oh Em Gee, SARA! I'm not an interior decorator! I could care less what my effing blog looks like! Jeez!' Ok, well chill out. There are pre made designs that you can choose from. Whichever one pleases your eyes the most just click on it and move on. It will take you less time then it does to read this blog. This paragraph that you just read...you could've created a blog in the time it took you to read it. That's right, it's that quick a process.

I love to blog. I love to have a space to type out my thoughts and rant and groan and feel the thrill that other people are reading it. I have so many friends who say 'Sara, you've been talking and whining far too much, enough now. Go sit down and have a cookie.' On a blog I don't hear that. I can actually eat a cookie and type at the same time, which means that I get joy out of having readers reading all of my woes while I stuff my face full of delicious treats. While it's true, I may complain a lot, but in return I like to read other peoples rants! I suggest everyone should blog. If you're like me and just want to rant and attempt to educate, I clearly condone that. It's a great way to get word out, I have a friend who is a feminist and she uses her blog to write about protests they're having and items in the news that may be of important to the subject. If you have a voice and want to be heard you've come to the right place- A BLOG! :)

Now because I'm in library tech I am required to inform you on how incredibly cool and new aged libraries have become. They blog all the time. My library blogs more then I do. I know, you're thinking that a good comparison to that would be my grandma beating me in a typing test (the woman has never used a computer)-but library's, as I've previously said, are much more high tech then you think. Don't get me wrong, they're not teleporting books directly to your desk quite yet, but they're trying. Slowly they're making their first footsteps to the new computer age; they have facebook, youtube, twitter AND BLOGS! (and much more, but I'm not going to get into that in today's lesson) I suggest you find out if your library has a blog and subscribe to it! It's a wonderful way to find out which books are new, what reviews they have, and promotions/book sales/events that they're putting on. They may have free punch at these events. FREE PUNCH! ...I know, you immediately agree that library blogs rock.

Now it comes to the sad truth...not all libraries have blogs. Your public library may have not gotten around to it, or your school library- but I say, take matters into your own hands! Suggest they start a blog, or suggest you start one for them! It's sad that some libraries are a little behind on the times, but slowly they're making their voices heard; as should you.

...everyone uses blogs. It's what all the cool kids are doing. Join us. Peer pressure is a good thing in this particular situation.

there's a light (over at the frankenstein place)

The weekend is near, I can taste it...I can smell it...it smells of pizza and candy. A wonderful smell indeed.

A normal weekend for me is late nights, work all day Saturday and spend most of Sunday in bed. It is a brilliant schedule that I've been keeping ever since I've been back in school.

Homework! Do I have any this weekend? Oh, yes! There's always something to do. Chapters to read, computer oriented projects to start and finish, assignments due- and will I be doing any of this during my precious weekend? I assure you, dear readers, I will not. In the Church-Of-Sara (aka, my weekend) homework is a foreign term.

Don't get me wrong, all my work gets done. Like I said, I haven't been late to hand in an assignment yet; I'm just lucky enough to have many spares during my school days so that I can get most of my work done then.

I'm still trying to get used to the whole being in school thing. I went from working 7-8 hours a day, from 10-6 to being in school from 8-whenever. Yes, the large change from working to school has driven me a little crazy...well, not exactly crazy, but I've got a nasty case of anxiety from the entire ordeal. Nothing to worry about though, it's being handled with the help of my close friends: antibiotics.

That's right, I'm on prescribed drugs, that means's this blog is only going to get more exciting!

For the next three days I assume I will be MIA, but like I said, I'll be in my own personal church all weekend. No school is permitted on the premises.

...I think I'll invite Dr. Frank-N-Furter to mass.

Back From the Dead

I've been out of school for five years. That sounds like a long time...and it truly is that long. I feel like when I was last in school I was learning about how to memorize each planet (including Pluto). Yes, that's how long ago it was. Now I'm back. Thrust into another building full of zombie-like students shuffling down the halls, piles of papers and assignments due within hours of each other, and mornings when the skies are still dark upon waking (when usually the sun would be high in the sky when I force myself out of bed). Why am I here (so early in the morning)? To become a library technician; to work at a school library and hand tissues to children who like reading 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' books, or to unplug internet connections at a high school when I find a student searching for porn (even though he claims he was 'wondering where babies come from'. Watching 'One Night in Paris' is not going to teach him anything about babies.)

What is a botch job? An online dictionary describes it as:
1) To make or preform clumsily; bungle
2)To repair or mend clumsily.

When you see the title of this blog you're probably thinking, 'huh, maybe this girl saves all of her assignments until the last minute and botches them all up!'. That is sadly incorrect. I try my best at every assignment that is handed to me. I do them all ahead of time, and haven't missed one yet. However, I find that every bit of homework I get I somehow manage to botch up on my own. Classic me. Either my brain goes dead half way through and I just rush through the end, or else I misinterpret the instructions and my instructors get a completely different paper back than they originally assigned.

So here we are, one month in and moving on to assignment 11 or 12 (yes, it has only been one month). Blogging. Dun DUN DUNNN!

I couldn't figure out a name for my blog so I decided to name it what it would possibly inevitably become, a botch job.

I know, you're probably worried about this becoming a boring school related blog- but fear not! This is a diary of how I wade through the thick quick sand-like effect that school has on someone who's been out of it for so, so long. I'll enjoy being able to rant and rave, maybe even educate, whoever reads my blog. It's a good outlet for when my brain is moments away from exploding as I try to catalogue 'Curious George Gets Curious: a book about a male monkey and his male monkey friend' by Stephen Almond, author of 'Let's Get Loud: a biography of Jennifer Lopez'. How do you even catalogue that?

What's that you're asking? 'Why do I need to know how to blog to become a librarian technician?' There's tons of reasons! If not just for peace of mind, but also to communicate with my teachers and fellow students. Librarians do blog- I KNOW! That may shock you, it shocked me at first but here we are, 2011 and I bet you're library even has its own facebook. You want that new graphic novel by your favourite artist Jhonen Vasquez? Well why don't you facebook your librarian? Or comment on one of his or her new book blogs to ask if he or she's going to be getting it in. The future is now, and you CAN actually do that. Get excited kids, being a librarian just got a lot more digital. It's like living in the Matrix...only not as much leather...and no evil machines....yet.

Anyway, I've ranted enough for now, but don't worry, I will be back to update you on the comings and goings of my mind. Stay tuned and eat your carrots, they keep your eye's strong so you can read more books! (see, I'm going to be a great librarian.)
